Genie Stealth Vs. Liftmaster
Overview
The Genie Pro Stealth is a fiber-reinforced belt-drive garage door opener that can handle up to 12-foot wide doors. One of Genie’s main competitors in the market of automatic garage door openers, Liftmaster, is also an industry leader in technology innovation and manufacturing.
History
Founded in 1923 under the name Alliance Manufacturing Company, the Genie corporation originally began selling consumer, industrial and military products. In 1954 while still operating under the Alliance name, the company released the first mass-produced radio-controlled garage door opener.
Chamberlain Group, Inc. has been developing and manufacturing Liftmaster products based out of Nogales, Mexico, since 1990. All garage door openers are tested in 35 second cycles, non-stop, for three weeks, to ensure quality of build.
Facts
The Pro Stealth is a belt-drive garage door opener and is the quietest in Genie’s line. Produced with the Safe-T-Beam system, where a beam of light is transmitted across bottom of the door to make sure nothing goes under it when closing, and ¾-horsepower motor, the Stealth can lift a garage door weighing up to 120 kg.
All Liftmaster series garage door openers are made with the Protector System, which is the same as the Genie line Safe-T-Beam. The closest competitor Liftmaster makes to the Genie Pro Stealth, also a belt-drive opener, the EliteSeries 3850, is made with a patented EverCharge Standby Power System.
Features
Both openers, as with most garage door openers on the market, are made with a “soft start and stop” mechanism to make the opener as quiet as possible when closing. It is only the EliteSeries 3850 however that is also equipped with the EverCharge Standby System, or anything like it, ensuring the even if you power goes out, the opener will continue to work on its internal power for up to 40-cycles in a 24-hour period.
Function
Because both companies market their garage door openers as “necessities” for the home, they do serve a practical and sometimes safer purpose. The Liftmaster products also are available with an in-home sensor that can both turn your indoor lights on while you are still in the car, and let you know by a green light on a beside monitor if you remembered to close the garage door.
Considerations
There are plenty of features and bells-and-whistles to be had with either company’s garage door opener. For instance the Genie Pro Stealth comes with the built in Intellicode system, which automatically changes the code of the receiver and opener each time the button is pressed. With either company, the consumer is getting the most advancements in technology for a convenient and useful product.
